The $10,000 VGo webcam robot (controlled via a remote laptop) wouldn’t work around NBR’s office. At least not for more than a few minutes – most of which I wasted in a juvenile attempt to get @lxwalls to drive it into a wooden pillar (because, you know, office obstacles are a real-life problem for robots).
Apparently NBR Towers’ weak wi-fi was to blame. The VGo later worked at another location. Check out NBR’s print edition next week for a detailed report.
Incidentally, having the VGo pile toward you is surprisingly intimidating; I’m guessing a webcam robot would be far better for a dressing-down than a static web conference screen.
